Introduction

The NEC Smart Check-In Kiosk provides the ability for a hotel to offer self-service guest check-in and check-out features to reduce waiting times. The solution frees reception staff to perform more personalized guest services.

Core guest features of Smart Check-In

  • Look up reservations saved in the hotel’s property management system
  • Extract person identification details (document number, last/first name, photo) from ID documents using ID scanners (such as with the 3M™ CR5400 Double-Sided ID1 Reader or 3M™ AT10K passport scanner)
  • Verify hotel guest identity by comparing a government issued picture ID with a live picture which utilizes NEC's award-winning facial recognition software
  • Issue and encode door keys
  • Confirm folio information
  • Provide guest with receipt on check-out

Overview

The Smart Check-In is built to integrate with NEC's UNIVERGE Integration Platform (UIP).  The integration platform provides the ability for applications to connect to external systems that exchange near real time data and notifications pertinent to each application's needs and functionality.  This approach allows for high customization of data handling that provides the ability for unrelated applications to share gathered data and provide a more robust feature set. The Smart Check-In takes advantage of this centralized integration by connecting to a single UIP that has integrations to other systems providing advanced functionality like facial recognition, sending of emails, communication to PMS and door key systems, etc. Additionally, the Smart Check-In Client can be easily customized using CSS style sheets to create a personalized look and feel. The presentation screens can be ordered per Kiosk to meet the style of each customer location. This Smart Check-In solution is comprised of several different software components.

The diagram below demonstrates an example of the environment needed for the Kiosk. External applications for connected components such as Face Match, Email, PMS and Door Key systems may require additional hardware and set up.
